Here at Westport Charters we all love and appreciate the opportunities we get to share with you. Ocean fishing is truly special all by itself and our captains also love to land the Big Ones! So the main reason for the special link is we want people to understand as much as possible about our various fishing trips and especially the new Deepwater trip as this is NOT your typical bottomfish trip. Let’s explain a little bit.

If you are mobility challenged on dry land, well, on a rocking boat this will definitely be amplified. Typically, the offshore waters are more nautical (rough), not always, but it’s quite common for the ocean conditions in the nearshore bottom and salmon fishing areas to be a notch down (less rough).

Deepwater Lingcod, like offshore Halibut trips, are typically 25 to 35 miles offshore in water depths from 400 to 600 feet, whereas the typical rockfish and lingcod trips generally take place 5 to 15 miles offshore in depths ranging from 60 feet to 200 feet and use much lighter fishing gear. There is also a lot of moving around the boat and some rotation that occurs which is meant to ensure that everyone gets opportunity to catch a great fish, maybe even that special Lunker.

The gear for Deepwater and Halibut trips is heavy duty gear, which enables us to fish offshore in the deep. It’s common for us to use 2 pound jigs or weights just to get your gear to bottom. Once again, this trip is very physically challenging, not your typical bottom fishing trip. However, as we have proved the last few seasons, the rewards on our Deepwater Lingcod trips were Fantastic. We just want folks to be aware what they are signing up for. FISH ON !! And Great Luck !!
